Troy LaRaviere for Mayor

Our goal for Rhetoric is to plan and host a people's assembly for the community of Chicago. An ideal gathering would include all the mayoral candidates for 2019. We want to begin conversations and expose to Chicagoans what each candidate has to offer for the city, their main concerns, a chance for questions and networking. This specific action project organizes the rhetoric and style of communication for my chosen candidate, Troy LaRaviere. It is his introduction for the assembly, what issues he uses his voice to speak out on. In class we visited MLK Jr.'s exhibit at the Chicago History Museum to analyze how the exhibitionists desired to portray the history and his influence on the people. Likewise, I designed a diorama that displays Troy's actions and own influence.

PKA, Welcome All Diorama
I created a diorama that displays Troy's presence at a protest that took place in Edgewater Community. Students at the Swift elementary school showed their anxieties of President Trump's executive orders concerning restrictions in immigration. The community gathered to establish protection of the immigrants in the neighborhood and embrace diversity. Troy LaRaviere came to speak at the event because it is his passion to support all CPS school students matter the circumstance. On his campaign website he has a statement on immigration as well. In this presentation, I rhetorically analyzed his quotes and the effect they give for his argument and message.

Troy LaRaviere is not your average opponent in the mayor. He risked his career to speak out against what he refused to agree with. He supports Chicago's sanctuary status and desires to serve immigrants in the school system. His drive to fight for the students of CPS entwines with fighting for the immigrants of Chicago and all unheard, discriminated people.
