Future Entrepreneurs
The final action project for Rhetoric introduces an invitation in a form of a chosen medium to present at the Peoples Assembly. We learned how visual art possesses rhetorical power, and here I have created a drawing that represents the under funding of CPS students. Instead of directing money into a school system that already exists to improve the curriculum, programs, and student interest, a whole new network is created. The Charter School Network. A place where rules, education, and staff do not have to abide to a specific set of rules. It is up to the creator, and it isolates the students in an unshared experience. In war, propaganda art was common to leave an impression and subconscious image of an issue or group of people in their audience's minds. I am displaying to you a way of effective communication to tear down barriers and bring on the table exposure of a significant social issue in 2018.
Funded for image, not substance, Charter Schools are paid for reputation. My rhetoric art piece "Future Entrepreneurs" says, 'I need what is best for my brand', rather than the inner workings, the heart of its purpose. Logos, logical reasoning, is used for survival of existence instead of pathos. This is why the money within the uniforms lingering above the hands portrays a colder business-type world neglecting the underfunded. But a world of business should not crush the underdogs. We want future generations to be supportive of others as we desire to be today. Uniforms are a common protocol in the Charter School Network, and here it serves the purpose of an antithetical metaphor. Rhetoric can be good or evil and likewise, uniforms can be as well. This concept of unity in the case of CPS schools has a goal to bring young people together in well funded education that benefits the public and doesn't leave anyone out. It speaks for all people, and is an open door of opportunity. Unity in the case of Charter Schools serves a purpose to dominate and discipline. Demerits and detentions exist to be given to those who defy the norm. It is a spread privatization. The true uniform that attention should be directed towards is a uniform of accessibility for everyone. The origins of social hierarchy begin with separate organizations building themselves up leaving others behind. Separate organizations funded by the government, leading the government away from its people. Just because there is a population of neglected people, that does not determine that their potential is nonexistent. Remember when Troy had said, "Every person in our country—documented or not—should have the means to realize his or her God-given potential." My art entices you to attend the people's assembly because there is a chance to banish the walls that are being built within the education system. Furthermore, within the education system is a diverse youth of LGTBQ, immigrants, minorities, etc. We need to acknowledge the better side of our human nature, and continue to develop the paradigm shift we need to prevent future suffering, future neglect of education, future bias within our society.
